1. Receiving: create a clean break-down point

Avoid opening cartons throughout the sales floor or stockroom when possible. A defined receiving point prevents cardboard, plastic film, and packing slips from scattering across the operation.

Set up the area with:

  • A box cutter and safety supplies.
  • A small, clearly labeled container for film, straps, and other non-cardboard packaging.

Map the route from receiving to the recycling destination and test it during a real delivery. Look for pinch points: a doorway that needs one hand free, a ramp, a shared dock, a crowded compactor area, or a recycling enclosure that fills before the scheduled pickup. Protect the quality of the cardboard stream
